Fall Decor Without the Pumpkin Spice Palette 🍂

Hey there Reader,

Can we have a little honest moment?

As much as we love fall — the crisp mornings, the cozy sweaters, the apple cider — not all of us are in love with the usual orange, rust, and brown color scheme that tends to take over every home decor aisle this time of year.

If that's your vibe, I don't wanna say it's bad! But it just feels like we could use a little more variation in our fall color schemes, am I right?

If you’ve ever wanted to create a fall look that still feels you — a little more vintage, a little less Hobby Lobby — I’ve got some fun ideas for you.

🎨 Try these non-traditional color palettes for fall:

  1. Moody Blues + Brass Accents: Think navy velvet pumpkins, brass candlesticks, and faded indigo quilts. This palette feels rich and elegant, especially when layered with aged wood or dark-stained furniture.
  2. Sage Green + Cream + Soft Gold: Fresh, clean, and still autumn-appropriate — especially if you mix in natural elements like wheat stalks, dried eucalyptus, or creamy ceramic pieces.
  3. Dusty Rose + Mustard + Olive: Unexpected, vintage-feeling, and perfect if you already love a romantic cottage vibe. This combo plays well with antique florals and old books.
  4. Charcoal + Amber + Ivory: Grounded and neutral but far from boring. Pull this together with old apothecary jars, ironstone, and wooden crates.

I pulled together a pretty fall mantel with my favorite color, blue! It actually pairs really well with orange, yet still feels fresh and like "me"

You can see how it came together over on the blog.

That antique German stoneware jug could be the prize piece in any fall vignette!

In other news . . . school starts for us here next week. So I will be spending the remainder of this week enjoying sleeping in and not having to run 15 places every day. I'm gonna miss these lazy summer days!

Hope you are well and enjoying the last drops of summer as well. Fall is just around the corner!

Melanie :)

P.S. If you're wondering about the hydrangeas I use in my product photos, they are dried ones I clip off the bushes in my yard at the end of the season. They are perfect for fall displays! Find a friend with a few in their yard and ask for a couple of clippings here next month :)

We have a little old dog who will be 14 in about 2 months. For the past two days in a row, he has somehow managed to take a swim in our pool. I haven't actually seen it happen either time . . .he just shows up soaking wet at the back door with a trail of water behind him, leading straight to the pool steps. He's a great little dog, but he's never been a swimmer. So the first time it happened, I assumed he fell in. He likes to wander around the edge and sniff in the mulch. But the second time...
