Hey Reader! I spent a few days last week in San Diego with my oldest and youngest kiddos. My oldest just graduated from high school and has always loved animals. When he was little, I told him I would take him to the San Diego Zoo after he graduated. Even though I *kinda* forgot about that promise, he did not! Moral of that story, be careful what you promise a 3rd grader π We took the youngest brother along with us, because he also likes zoos and is generally up for an adventure. Middle brother stayed home--you can say he's more "indoorsy" and doesn't really enjoy traveling. The trip highlight for the boys was getting to hang out with kangaroos. Mine was seeing all the amazing plants that I can't grow back home in Arkansas. When we left Arkansas, it was rainy and in the 80's. When we got back home, summer had arrived, complete with mid-90's temps and lots and lots of sun. Wherever you live, I hope you are now also enjoying the arrival of summer. Long days, relaxed schedules, extra time with friends and family, and maybe even a trip or two of your own π In the spirit of summer, new today on the blog I'm sharing 10 great plants that can go around a pool. A few years ago we ripped out the overgrown landscaping around our pool and have been enjoying creating our own tropical oasis (well, as tropical as you can get in Northwest Arkansas!) Even if you don't have a pool, this is a great list of plants that can thrive in hot sun and bring lush color to your yard. β>>> Click here to read 10 Great Plants to Go Around a Poolβ β

We have a little old dog who will be 14 in about 2 months. For the past two days in a row, he has somehow managed to take a swim in our pool. I haven't actually seen it happen either time . . .he just shows up soaking wet at the back door with a trail of water behind him, leading straight to the pool steps. He's a great little dog, but he's never been a swimmer. So the first time it happened, I assumed he fell in. He likes to wander around the edge and sniff in the mulch. But the second time...
