Are you Measuring your Business?

Hey Reader,

Have you ever heard the phrase, "What gets measured, gets managed" ?

Someone said it to me for the first time about 2 years ago, and since then, I've adopted it as one of my life phrases.

I say it so much now, my kids are tired of hearing it πŸ˜‚

But I think the idea applies to soooooo many things, and understanding it has helped me make a lot of positive changes.

In case it's a new phrase to you, let me explain what it means with a quick story:

In May 2019 we bought our current house. It has a pool, which we were all excited about.

But it was our first ever pool to take care of, and we honestly had no idea what to do with it.

That first summer was kind of a bust when it comes to pool care 😟

We definitely grew some algae, stained the concrete, and had no idea what to do when a neighbor kid got sick in it (I'll spare you the details).

We bought a TON of pool chemicals (which are pretty expensive btw) and dumped in whatever one we thought would help.

Sometimes we picked the right one and the problem got better, but other times we made it worse.

The game-changing moment came when we learned how to dip the little test tube set into the water and actually measure the five chemicals.

Now that we knew the problem was the pH level and not the chlorine, we could put the right chemical in to fix it.

Once we learned how to measure what was going on in the pool water, we learned how to actually manage it.

So I'll say it again: What gets measured gets managed. It's true with pool water and it's true with your business.

Are you measuring what is happening every month in your business?

I know a lot of people feel like their business needs to "do better," but are unsure of how to get there.

So like us and our first-summer pool care, they try a bunch of random different things to "just sell more" and hope something happens to put more money in their pocket.

But what if you actually don't need more sales? What if too high expenses are the problem to fix? Or maybe you buy too much inventory each month? Or you got hit with your first tax bill and had no idea it was coming?

Here's the thing--it's impossible to effectively manage your business if you are not measuring all your numbers.

This is why I created the Business Budget Tracker about 18 months ago for myself, and why it stays open on my computer every day.

Measuring my business with this simple tool has helped me manage it much better.

I can do more with less. I know where to focus my effort at any given time. And I have a goal to work towards and a plan for that tax bill.

Seriously, it's been a game-changer.

You may already have something you use to track your business numbers, and that's awesome.

But if you don't, the Business Budget Tracker is a simple spreadsheet built with you in mind. Ready to go, with all the set-up work done for you.

For $37 you can grab it and start using it today.

It's not fancy, and it's probably something you could build yourself if you wanted.

But if you're ready to get going and the idea of building a spreadsheet makes you wanna run and hide in the shed . . . maybe it's worth just grabbing this one πŸ˜…

I think the product sales page has all the info you need, but if you have more questions about it, just hit reply to this email and I'll be happy to answer.

I really do hope it's helpful for you πŸ€—

Hey Reader! I spent a few days last week in San Diego with my oldest and youngest kiddos. My oldest just graduated from high school and has always loved animals. When he was little, I told him I would take him to the San Diego Zoo after he graduated. Even though I *kinda* forgot about that promise, he did not! Moral of that story, be careful what you promise a 3rd grader 😁 We took the youngest brother along with us, because he also likes zoos and is generally up for an adventure. Middle...
