Hey there Reader, A few months ago I headed out to a local event called Picking Time on 59, a 26-mile yard sale event that's been the site of some big scores for me in the past. This year though, the vibe was a little different. I still found some treasures, but also ran into a sad new reality for our reselling business, one I'm calling "Online Price Creep." I'm spilling the tea over in today's new video on YouTube: what I found, what was frustrating, and how I think we can do better. Whether you like virtual flea marketing or are interested in the state of the reselling biz, there's something in here for you!
For my reselling friends . . .How has your sourcing been lately? Are you finding yourself also impacted by the "garage sales have eBay prices" issue? If you're struggling to find inventory for your business at the right price, here are a few tips: 👉 Bundle. Maybe the one vintage planter is $10, but if the seller has a table full, can they give you a better price if you buy all of them? Bundling for a lower price is one of the oldest games in the picking playbook. 👉 Wait. If your local estate sales are asking crazy prices on day one, try shopping on day three. Get there early and snag more realistic prices and some great deals. 👉 Get Selective. Instead of going for volume in your inventory, save your $$ for a couple of higher quality items. Yes, you may pay more but having better inventory, even at a slightly higher price, usually pays off in the long run. Tomorrow I head to England ✈️ I will have SO much to tell you about when I get back, not just what I found but also about a major shift in my business and an exciting new event I'll be hosting the spring. 🤗 So don't go anywhere . . . I'll see you in a few weeks! |

Hey there Reader, Scrolling around online looking or flipping through decor magazines, you've probably noticed how often blue and white shows up. It’s one of those color combinations that has stuck around for centuries, and it still works in homes today without feeling trendy or overdone. I just shared a new blog post all about decorating with blue and white: where the look comes from, why it’s lasted so long, and some simple ways to incorporate it into your home without changing everything....
One of the things I love about sourcing in Europe is how everyday objects were made with a quiet kind of beauty. Not necessarily meant to be decorative… but made well enough that they become beautiful over time. A few small French pieces went live in the First Arrivals online shop today, and I thought I’d share a little about them. First are a pair of old painter’s palettes. They're amazing examples of how the process of making art can become art itself. Layered with years worth of oil paint,...
Happy Friday Reader! My England YouTube video just went live this morning 🇬🇧 To be completely honest, I wasn't sure I had filmed enough footage to even have a video to share, the trip was such a blur 🫠 So I was pleasantly surprised when I pulled my camera videos and found plenty of behind the scenes footage to make a video I'm really proud of. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. And just fyi . . . at the 13:40 mark in the video I get pretty vulnerable and share more about this whole giant...
